Sam Adams Utopias 2011

Posted: May 14th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: BGH, Bottle List | No Comments »

It comes in a telescope.

This is the first year that BGH has stocked Sam Adams Utopias. If you don’t know, now Google know. This year’s batch is a 24% (or so) “beer” aged in Spanish sherry casks and Portuguese port casks. It has no carbonation. It looks like cognac. The handmade bottles are imported from a Terry Gilliam movie.

We’re charging 15$ per 1.25-ounce serving. That’s a square deal. This shit is expensive.

Every time you drink one, Mo gets Happy.

New Bottle!

Captain Lawrence recently got their new bottling rig up and running. They’ve been bottling big beers in 750ml bottles for a while, but for the first time one of their normal brews will be available in a non-draft format. The Captain’s Reserve Imperial IPA is now out in 16.9oz bottles. They use the chubby German .5-liter bottles. We sell them for $7. Not bad for a big gulp of one of NY’s best DIPAs.

This is some leftover from the event last night. We have a couple 25.4oz bottles of Ommegang Bier De Mars. According to the rep, it is basically Rare Vos brewed with Brettanomyces. It’s got a hint of pucker, but is pretty mild. Get them while you can.

This is probably the most important new bottle we’ve added to our stable. This beer is not yet released. We only have it because we had a Brooklyn Brewery event last night and they were nice enough to bring a case of the Local 2. Fuck yes.

You can only buy this at BGH. For now, at least.

Been a while since we added anything, but we got a few cases of Brooklyn Black Ops last week. These are bottles from the real release a few weeks ago, not from last year’s secret stash. Black Ops is a strong stout (10.7% ABV) aged in bourbon barrels. The bottles are 25.4oz. We’re selling two cases and aging one. Shit is good. Real good.

After being so impressed with this year’s batch of Nor’ Easter at our Captain Lawrence Brewery Event, we decided to start carrying it in bottle form. So we now have 25.4oz big boys of this delicious, and potent, winter brew.

We also still have a few 25.4oz bottles of the Captain Lawrence Bourbon Barrel-aged Smoke from the Oak on hand.

You can get them to go also. FTW.

We haven’t gotten new bottles in quite a while. In order to make up for this, we recently introduced a couple oddballs into the stable. First up is ‘t Gaverhopke Extra, an incredibly complex Belgian Quad. It is very yeasty with hints of dried fruit and sour notes throughout. It weighs in at 12% ABV.

Next up is La Botteresse Noire, a spicy dark Belgian ale. It weighs in at 10% ABV and is perfect for this shit-dog weather.
